I'VE ALWAYS been fascinated by this rustic farmhouse, which sits back from the highway beside an old pasture. It conjures up visions of day gone by, when a farmer would get up at the crack of dawn to milk his small herd of cows by hand. Times have changed, but the house still stands, sturdy and solid against a Maine winter. On this particular day, I happened to catch it just as the setting sun of December caught its windows afire, turning an ordinary, stolid old farmhouse into something soft and magical.
