The Hamsa hand has always been a favourite of mine and I own several of them. This is my first attempt to make one myself.
I thoroughly enjoyed the process, and will definitely make more of these in the future.
Thick copper wire was bent in shape and then hammered flat to strengthen the frame. Bright blue and snow white seed beads were used to form the evil eye protection in the center. An onyx bead rests on top.
The swirls were adorned with round peridot beads on one side, and citrine beads on the other. The fingertips are woven in red wire and a delicate border of blue topaz beads separates them from the rest of the fingers. The woven squibbels and copper beads mimick the extensive and intricate lines of the beautiful henna hand drawings worn by the woman of the Middle-East.
Length of the strap : +/- 66cm (26”)
The hand (without eye) measures 115mm x 9mm (4 ½” x 3 ½”)
All metal used is raw copper that will develop a soft natural patina over time.
