I have installed the forest scene that sits on three levels in the heart of the text block. The medallian on the front serves as the title for this tome and hints at the content held within. There are three hand cut levels of forestscape that were delicately hewn from the paper with an exacto knife. I randomly design where the trees will originate at the bottom of the pages but the rest of the branches and twigs are freehanded. The result of this process captures the natural flow one would see apparent in trees and growth in a forest. I used a few different rice papers to cover the outside and inside of the book to echo the natural feel of the woods. This sculpture stands as a powerful but quiet symbol of the natural world. Like forests, it can unfold stories of survival and growth if read correctly.
