This coif is woven from galvanized steel rings, handwound and cut by me personally from 17 gauge wire, and they have an inner diameter of 1/4", which makes for a very tight, fine weave.
Some people prefer aluminum for their chainmail needs, as it is about 3 times lighter than steel. I, however, prefer steel for the very same reason - it's heavy! When you have this coif on, it really feels like you have armor on. What's the fun in wearing crazy costume pieces if they don't feel real? So go steel, baby; you'll never go back.
Also, feel free to suggest any embellishments you would like done to the coif - I could add a strip of mail to go down the bridge of the nose, or triangular points trimming the face opening, or anything, really. Just send me a conversation and I'll be sure to do whatever I can to accommodate you.
Black and white photo is courtesy of Scott Davis. Yes, proud to say that my coif was used in a recent photoshoot! Hot damn!
