Steadfast & firm,

One simple thin stem, rooted deep-down in the soil,
is a strong and up-right foundation suitable for more growth.

It will then branch out and reach with slender arms,
to offer young, tender sprouts to the sky.

These also will develop to become stronger and
then providing shelters and homes
to many of the small creatures of our world.

This is a 10" x 10" print of one of 48 Botanicas, an ongoing project.
A series very connected to my deep appreciation of the amazing world of plants.

A unique print since it is printed on a novelty ricepaper with faint tracings of subtle leaves, then treated specially to receive the printing ink. — each a different paper —
It is printed with the Epson R2400 with 8 different color cartridges of K3 pigment inks. These inks are archival and fade resistant, they will last for generations!
Once printed it is permanently glued to a 10"H x 10"W x .75"D cotton canvas, wrapping around the edges.
Then finished with 2 coats of an archival UV (ultra violet) varnish.
Ready to hang, no frame is necessary!

Print is signed and dated by the artist.

This artwork is shipped wrapped in bubble wrap and delivered in a sturdy cardboard box.

How is the "ORIGINAL" made:

The medium is watercolor and the surface is ricepaper.
Using a tjanting textile tool and hot wax,
I draw thin lines to render forms and composition.
With repeated washes of watercolor,
hues deepen and blend within the forms.
The wax is reapplied; and with these added lines,
shapes emerge, creating new images which are painted.
The process is continued until the painting is complete.

Each printed Botanica has a border incorporated into the image.
This is done by scanning the finished original piece and combining several small portions of this image which creates the patterned border that is finally wrapped around the edge of the canvas.
