Well this is a piece of Welsh Carmarthenshire history
This a photocopy of my origional pen and ink illustration (20" x 15"); a picture of the historic event known as the Rebbecca Riots. The taxes were raised at toll gates for farmers taking produce to market but it did not include women so the Carmarthenshire farmers dressed as women so as to negate the tax laws and have the toll-gates opened to them without paying.
Needless to say this was soon realized and they ended up smashing all the toll gates in the county until the militia was called. Many died and it is a time well documented and remembered.
I did this picture as a peliminary prior to my actual painting which now sits in the local pub 'The Plough and Harrow', the infamous meeting place where the rioteers gathered before marching on Carmarthen.
