As a ceramic artist sometimes I get stuck on a theme, almost like a stuck needle on an old vinyl record. The striped fish theme started almost nine years ago, when I made my first "Stripes" fish teapot. The joke back then was that Stripes coulnd't figure out whether horizontal or vertical stripes slenderized. My story went on to talk about how friends of Stripes were going to call the team from What Not To Wear to straighten the whole thing out. From the fish teapot Stripes I carried the them over to mugs, bowls and plates and had fun with different color combinations. A while back a customer asked me if I'd ever make a rainbow striped mug, and I did. Then I got to thinking, why not revive "Stripes" but bring in the good old "Roy G. Biv" If you don't know Roy, it's a great way to remember the colors of the rainbow, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. A must have if you're working on rainbow themed art.

Stripes Rewind has a pelican as a traveling companion, both are wearing cool rhinestone studded sunglasses. Stripes has wire with handmade ceramic rainbow Roy G Biv colored beads glued into her dorsal fin, as well as high temperature wire for her eyelashes. She's wearing rainbow ceramic dangle earrings.

Please note because this is a Made to Order listing please allow 4-6 weeks for the teapot to be created. Plus no shipping charges if shipped within the contiguous United States. Due to the size of this piece, she cannot be shipped internationally.

The teapot was formed using soft earthenware clay. I used the potter's wheel to throw her ring body and a inverted cylinder for her base. She was finished off using handbuilding techniques to bring her to life. All of the clay and glazes that I use are certified non-toxic so if you want to give her a smooch, go right ahead.

Stripes has all of the elements of a teapot but isn't practical for use. Because of her lucsious lips, she's a drooler. No microwave for her either becuase of the metal wire embellishments. She would make a fantastic addition to a teapot or fish collection or for someone that loves whimsy.
