From Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, 1594:
JULIET:
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.
These roses do not smell, but the shape and color makes them very much come alive. It took more than a week to complete, but I think it's the prettiest thing I've made so far.
The base frame has been carefully shaped out of one continuous, 4ft long, 16g sterling silver wire. It has been hammered for strength before painstakingly coiling it with 60+ ft of very fine silver wire.
To add color, I filled in the spaces with loads of tiny gemstones: smooth fresh green peridot buttons for the stems and leaves, hand cut finest pink rhodolite garnet rondelles for the flowers.
The strap has little accents of color, bringing unity throughout the design.
A necklace made with love, as a tribute to the greatest love story of all.
Length of both chains, from the top of the branch : 160mm + 40mm extension (6 1/4” + 1 ½” extension)
The flower center piece, incl. branches measures incl. branches 135mm x 120mm (5 1/4” x 5”)
All metal used is sterling silver that has been oxidised to add depth and interest.
