Can you guess what caught my eye about this particular collection of butterflies (from the collection at a local Audubon center)? It was that one tiny purple fellow, jewel-bright among his larger, dramatically patterned, gold and brown companions.
Part of my Natural History series, which documents the beautifully preserved specimens collected during the Victorian Era. These butterflies were actually collected a bit later in the grand scheme of things - during the Summer of 1936.
