Used to hammer in metals , jewerlers often used them , are still in great condition . The round wood box appears to be oak , the lid has a crack as seen in photo , this is caused by the drying of the wood .
I have had several craftsmen tell me this is a very unique piece because of the wood box . The steel shanks measure 2 1/2 inches long , The numbers are 0 through 9 and measure 3/23 , check out this website for a more accurate visual of the size of the numbers : http://www.autoshoppingcenter.com/steelstamps/
The box is 3 1/8 inches tall and 2 inches round . Any questions or additional photos feel free to email me .
