When we go camping I take my pottery things with me and set up a tent to throw pots and create next to the awsome Cash La Poudre River.
For the past couple of years now we have been firing and / or smoking bisqued pots in our campfires.
Some of the pots I make in a tent up camping, we take home are bisque fired, then later,
on another trip, we put in our campfires.
I wrap the pieces up in bundles of recycled papers string and tin foil, inside these bundles I put pine needles, pinecones, moss, dirt, bark ,found objects and sometimes sugar, salts, herbs and glaze oxides.
These materials all smoke and burn off leaving wonderful natural paintings in very suttle browns light to dusty grays and black toned figures.
It is not as purple as the picture appears.
No two pots are ever a like.
I seal the pots with a fine woodworks paiste to give them
a low gloss finish!
This technique like Raku and Horsehair firings does not fully mature the clay or make it watertight.
Slip a clear vase or glass jar inside and the pot could be used for fresh flowers, herb cuttings, candle holder, ring caddy, or what-nots jar.
This pottery is not water tight or for use with direct contact to food or drink.
Approx. 3 1/2" X 4"
