two souvenir commemorative glasses marking the 1987 prince of wales stakes race. iced tea or high ball glasses. the glasses are in absolutely pristine condition, no cracks, chips, scratches, cloudy glass, wear to the gold rim or fading of the periwinkle blue lettering. i think they went straight into my mom's china cabinet and never came out. yes, these were obtained by my parents when they attended this race at fort erie track in fort erie, ontario.
writing on the back of each glass lists the race winners from the first stakes in 1959 through to and including 1986. only two canadian triple crown winners listed but there have been 7 to date.
canada's thoroughbred racing triple crown races consist of the queen's plate on polytrack surface, the prince of wales stakes on dirt and the breeders' stakes on turf - three different surfaces and this is the only difference from the u.s. triple crown races. i believe all of the u.s. races are on dirt but not 100% sure.
i live near the farm where the great Northern Dancer is buried and memorialized. the e.p. taylor estate and thoroughbred farms have all but closed - a great loss to the Oshawa/Whitby/Bowmanville area (east of Toronto).
6 1/2" tall and 2 1/4" in diameter.
thanks for looking.
