Inspired by the sight of a pileated woodpecker in the woods (I am myself a redhead) I thought it would be nice to paint a woman with a woodpecker spirit animal. I portrayed the ivory-billed woodpecker, which is thought to be extinct, but rather resembles the pileated except for the color of the beak and some other details. This is not meant to be an accurate representation, but I chose to represent the extinct species because of my own hope that researchers will find living specimens some day, and as a reminder of how precious each species of animal is to us.
The woman has a mystical goddess-like aspect, wearing a bodice with the black/white markings of a woodpecker, and a soft grey hooded cape. Her bird friend has a shock of bright red plumage, and bold black and white markings. Dark green greens and greenery swirl in the background.
Lovely nature art, with a pagan feeling, for fantasy art lovers and devotees of the woods and forest, nature, and birds.
