Chokin is the ancient Japanese art of engraving copper and gilding it with precious gold and silver. The engravings were originally created to decorate the shrine, temple and the armament of the samurai warriors, but the technique has been employed in many different areas. In this case a compact and perfume atomizer.
The set is in the original display box and in unused condition. There is spot which I believed held a small vial of perfume. The dark marks on the inside of the lid held a piece of paper which explained the Fine Art of Chokin which is long gone. The set is unused and in excellent condition for the age. There are a few pitting places on the rim on outside of compact but other than that... absolutely beautiful. If you are a true collector of the unusual and appreciate the originality of this set, add it to your vintage collection.
Please understand this is not precious metals, but a very well done commercial piece from the 1950's. There are Japanese Trade Marks on both pieces.
