Our neighbor plants his whole front yard with all sorts of poppies including these gorgeous light yellow ones. Red and orange varieties are much more commonly seen in the Pacific Northwest.
Poppies have been grown in gardens for thousands of years. They are associated with the earth-mother Demeter goddess of the cycle of life in Greek mythology. In ancient times growing poppies successfully meant a good fall harvest.
