This double-walled planter was inspired by listening to the farmers working in their fields behind my home in TN and the peaceful quiet that followed as the sun was setting over the land. It has a few birds flying through the golden sky as the sun sets carved into the outer wall. Small holes carved in the bottom of the inner wall allow water to flow into the well between the two walls. The carving in the outer wall does not go all the way to the bottom to hold the water in the well.

These planters can be used for regular house plants, bulb forcing, and bonsai trees. Some people decide to put pillar candles or candy in the planters instead.

The two walls are initially thrown on the wheel and allowed to partially dry to a leather hard state. The designs are carved in using an Exacto knife. Once the piece is completely dry, the edges are smoothed with a scouring pad (yes, just like the one in my kitchen) and it is fired to a bisque state. The piece is then glazed and fired a second time. This piece measures 3 1/8" high by 7 1/4" wide. The inner wall measures 4 1/2" wide. It is high fired stoneware clay with gold glaze.
