You never really know when the sun is too strong. This clever UV monitor tells you what strength the sun is at any given time so you can know when to apply sunblock. It could be cloudy early or late in the day so you think it’s safe to be in the sun. But even when it is overcast outside, you could be at risk of a burn and frequent UV exposure can cause skin cancer. You can also get these in sterling silver earrings or ring for the same price and in cufflinks for $1 more - contact me if you don't see thes listings).
This non-digital low tech gadget charm gets darker and darker as UV radiation strength/risk increases. It is such a pretty color when it is in the sun - it changes from white to a light pink or a dark pink or a mauve color right before your eyes. It is really fun to play with in the sun and shade and works pretty quickly (less than 5 seconds).
Experiment with it: put your UV glasses over it, slather it with sunblock, shine a UV light over it, cover it with your hand, etc.! No batteries, completely waterproof – Use it over and over. I recently found that it was white (no UV exposure) inside my driver side window but once I roll down my window, it was pink! I had no idea I had UV protection, here I thought I had to buy tinted windows.
The indicator itself is made of a special UV measuring plastic using color change technology from AUMY. The surrounding ring is 22mm diameter sterling silver and comes with an 18” sterling silver chain (you can substitute 16” – just let me know), a color indicator of UV strength, and a beautiful gift tin. Comes with a UV light for fun indoors too.
