Whether you want to take a stroll down leaf-strewn paths, waltz through the sun-filtered forest, or just enjoy the seasons from inside with a cup of hot cocoa, this is a great dress to do it in! And, as it’s only one of five ever to be made, it’s a look that’s unique as well as beautiful.
Your American Girl doll will feel comfortable and look stylish from the moment she steps into this dress. It has long, flared sleeves gathered into a tiny cuff and a cute pleated skirt that would look terrific with tights. The waist is slightly dropped for a more flattering silhouette. And the deep red sash (reminiscent of the most beautiful of leaves) has a little orange bow, the signature of a Melody Valerie Couture original.
Of course, we knew this was going to be a terrific dress almost as soon as we started, so we made sure to begin with a good foundation—high-quality fabrics. Pure brown wool forms the basis of the dress, and the sash and lining are 100% silk duppioni. What? We forgot to tell you about the lining? It’s a cheerful orange silk, so we’re not sure how we missed it! It covers the entire inside of the bodice with fiery delight. And tucked away on the left side, right above her heart, is a tiny red leaf appliqué.
Melody (my American Girl doll) and I take great pride in our work, so we make sure that all our dresses are made to the highest quality possible. All the machine-sewn seams are straight and beautiful, and all the raw edges are either enclosed or finished so that you’ll never have to worry about fraying. Finally, we finished up the dress with a lot of detailed hand stitching. Our favorite part about the construction, however, is the invisible zipper up the back. No more Velcro! Melody and I got too tired of watching dresses get eaten by their own Velcro to allow that to happen to any of our creations.
