She whispered in my ear during a long week in the studio. Keeping no pre-conceived ideas, or thoughts as to materials to work with, or sketches I let her guide my hands. Progress was slow, mystical, and rewarding. Rhett acted as my art director suggesting other possibilities. A team we are.
Recipe for original artwork includes: gessoed and painted cotton fabric, antique cotton batting rescued from a shredded comforter, silk flowers ribbon that I hand painted pink poseys into red roses, glass seed beads ( gold and ruby colors), hand crimped electrical wire ( rays of aureole), antique holy card, antique real photo postcard, antique fabrics and trims, heavy papers, and acrylic paints. Most all of it hand sewn together. Then a wee bit of archival glue in a few places.
This mixed media collage was printed to create devotional medals, badges, tokens and ornaments.
Rhett fabricates the aluminum cases in his studio from flat stock. He vacuum forms each lens from a piece of polycarbonate. Within each aluminum case is placed a print of artwork and a polycarbonate lens. The edges of the case are crimped shut to protect the print. A hole is drilled in top of case, jump ring attached and lastly, the name Kelly is hand engraved on back of medal.
Handmade in USA. Created one by one with reverence.
Please convo me as to whether you would like a "crinkly" edge or smooth edge medal.
