*This wonderful, durable chain has been produced, by hand, for thousands of years. Any civilization practiced in the Goldsmiths arts made variations of this chain. It goes by several names, Roman, and Etruscan to name a few. It is also referred to by it's method of construction...loop-in-loop.
*The chain begins by forming hundreds if fine silver rings, then fusing them closed one by one. Then the rings are stretched and woven one into another building the chain. Sometimes this chain is pulled through a draw plate to make a tight weave. I prefer to reshape each link with a scribe one at a time. It takes longer but makes the chain more open and flexible.
I have made the toggle of this necklace by cutting the shape from sterling silver that has been roll textured. I then cut a free from leaf shape for the opening of the toggle. I formed the leaves and spheres from solid 14kt gold. The sterling handmade twig, formed by hammer and torch, finishes the toggle.
The sterling end pieces on the chain are also made by hand from tubing, sheet, and wire.
This necklace measures 18 inches long ~ 45.7 cm
The chain thickness is 4.5mm
*****This necklace is a one of a kind ...and truly a labor of love*****
