This piece reminds me of an ornate window overlooking a garden of tailored hedges and exquisite flowers...
This piece has a quirk- one side of the "frame" bumps out very slightly so it isn't as flush or straight. Due to the finish of the sterling silver it isn't noticeable unless you have it in your hand and are examining it. When worn it is not conspicuous. Even so, I have marked it down, because I'm a fanatic for details and I figure that anyone who appreciates handmade goods, art, and embraces quirks, deserves a little extra reward. Was $150
On the verge of antique (antique is 100 years old, the Edwardian era ended between 1910-1918, different sources suggest different end years), this gorgeous glass has smooth windowlike areas surrounded by textured scrolls/curlicues, enhanced by black (paint? lacquer? enamel? they came this way...I did not want to monkey with perfection) material in the recesses....
The setting is handmade sterling silver, with scalloped bezel edges which secure the glass and compliment the curves carved/pressed into the glass...
I left the area under the glass shiny- not quite a mirror finish, but shiny enough that one can see a blurry image if you try to look at yourself... I wanted this to be more about reflecting colors and suggestions of shapes rather than a mirror necklace... It's more enchanting... Looking at it reminds me of looking out the window on one of those days of fog and mist and everything looks like a watercolor painting....
The chain is sterling silver as well and has been treated with a hand applied patina and burnished to a high, dark shine.
The pendant portion measures a little over 1.5" from bottom to top of the bail and is approximately 3/4" wide...The chain, which clasps with a sterling silver lobster clasp, measures a smidgen over 18".
