I have built this textural necklace around the fossilized tooth of a Mosasaur. These mighty reptiles lived during the Cretaceous Period, and were aquatic. They weren't exactly dinosaurs, but are from the same time- they were lepidosaurs, reptiles with overlapping scales. They were predators, as you can likely tell from the shape of this tooth.
The fossil is set into a reticulated silver pendant. Reticultion is a time-consuming process whereby one heats and quenches the silver repeatedly, until a flowing texture is achieved. I worked at this until it was shaped like the gum of an animal, formed snugly around the tooth. At the same time, the surface mimics the rock surface that I imagine this fossil may have been found in.
The sterling silver chain on this beast's tooth is 18". The sterling silver hook and loop clasp were hand-forged by me. The tooth is about 1" in length.Shipping- please read: These ship with Air Mail Small Package, unless otherwise requested by you.
