Bring the outside in! Love this moss. This moss is technically a lichen if you do your moss research:
Reindeer mosses were originally named for their value as a food source for reindeer and caribou in the plant's northern range. Reindeer moss is really a lichen - a combination of a fungus and an alga, which share a symbiotic relationship and form a new plant. The algae have chlorophyll and are capable of making their own food, while the fungus has spongy threads to support the plant. It is a short, stubby ground cover that grows in pillow-like mats in sandy soil. There are about 40 species in the southeast, which range in color from gray-green to green-yellow to just gray.
The plant has the ability to absorb moisture and nutrients from the air through cells on its surface. This moss requires no care. If you want it to look full and spongy, just give it a light mist. Otherwise, it is totally vacation worthy. It will not fail you!
The listing comes with a handful of MINT GREEN\/GREY Reindeer moss and a dozen polished, bean sized, river stones to place in the bottom of your hanging terrarium. It hangs by an artsy, sleek, thin wire to give it a floating effect. It arrives in a box as a KIT.
Mist lightly to keep moss spongy.
Thank you fellow etsian GirlGourder, for the kickin' Lichen!
