Stunning and beautiful to display anywhere, these are fabulous conversation pieces, modern design items, memorable and unique gifts, or cherished heirlooms!
Temari is the ancient Japanese folk art of silk embroidered thread balls, originally made by noble women from silken threads pulled from old kimonos. Used originally hundreds of years ago for child's play, today the art of temari is becoming more regarded around the world.
I am passionate about bringing together modern color schemes, unique designs, and precise stitching details into my art. I hand-wrap each ball first with yarn, then thread, then stitch my own modern version of the traditional Japanese designs with silky cotton embroidery threads. The unique bands around the center of these temari are called an "obi" for the sash worn around the waists of traditional Japanese kimonos!
Please note: I can attach a hanging thread if you desire one as these are lightweight ornaments, otherwise this is a unique art piece to display on a candle holder, tucked in a basket, or with a group of other temari.
