I love the vibrance of red poppies they have such a graceful energy. The image for this bookmark was taken from a photogragh of the poppies I grew from seed that come up every year in the garden at my summer cottage. It is interesting how many of my family members are really quite good at planting and maintaining beautiful gardens, sadly my talents are not as strong in that area but I still dream of having a garden tour quality garden. On those cold winter days when I am reading a book this little bookmark keeps those dreams alive . . lol.
Poppies have been grown in gardens for thousands of years. They are associated with the earth-mother Demeter goddess of the cycle of life in Greek mythology. In ancient times growing poppies successfully meant a good fall harvest.
