Skunk (and Fox) spray is very oily and contains sulfur (hence the stench). Skunk-Be-Gone Shampoo causes a chemical reaction that breaks up the oils and neutralizes the odor of not only Skunk and Fox spray but dead and decaying things too, including manure and dead fish (my dogs' favorites).
It contains Pure Buffalo Tallow soap which is wonderful for keeping your pets coat clean and soft, PLUS sodium borate, hydrogen peroxide, and disodium tetraborate all naturally occuring mineral compounds that are in Baking Soda and Boraxo and safe for your pet. This combination nutralizes and cleans the fur of the odor-oils and acids from the 'sprays', manure, and all those rotten and dead things that your pet loves to roll in or chase.
With the NEW SQUEEZE tip bottle you don't have to stop and pump soap into your hand. Now you can use the tip to left up the fur and squeeze it down at skin depth,. Then thoroughly work the Skunk-Be-Gone into already wet fur. Pay special attention to the neck and head area as that is usually what gets the worst of it. Be sure and keep soap out of your pet's eyes. Use a washcloth across its eyes. Don't let the pet shake while you let the shampoo set for a few minutes. Then rinse and repeat.
It’s hard not to be impressed by a skunk.
The little creature has two anal glands, which can hold 15 mls of foul smelling, potentially blinding, liquid. Not only that, the liquid can be squirted and directed with great accuracy over a distance of several metres. So powerful is the scent that some say it can be detected up to a mile downwind.
The potent and foul smelling liquid is so, because it contains some particularly smelly thiol molecules. Thiols are sometimes known as mercaptans, which can have a disagreeable burnt rubber, smelly fart, raw onion or rotting cabbage character.
