I became so tired of hearing myself say, "If you don't ....... then you'll, uh, um, you'll, um, be grounded?" Not a lot of conviction in my voice, for certain! I am just not very good at coming up with spontaneous punishments to fit the crime. So I came up with the consequence spinner that hangs nicely on our wall near our fisherkids responsibility stations. Should one of our three cherubs need a consequence for a not-so-cherubic choice, they spin for it. I added a sweet little "grace space" that there is a 1-in-8 chance they may land on, just to teach them that from time to time we all deserve a little grace. I know I do! The consequence spinner comes framed in an acrylic frame with a spinner adhered to the frame cover. You write on the frame with a marker (we use a thin permanent marker...it will come off with fingernail polish remover later! Dry-erase markers just "accidentally" rub off when the kids have a spare minute) and fill in the consequences you deem worthy. Our favorite so far is to empty our son's diaper pail for two trash days in a row....ick.
