These diorama eggs begin as ordinary chicken eggs. One of these eggs can take anywhere from 2-6 hours to complete. Using miniatures I set up a scene/story within each egg. This egg features a tiny white bunny with black spots that has decided to rest (hatch?) on a pretty speckled Easter egg. A wee little yellow chick has come along and is trying to figure out what is happening. Hand assembled flowers made from vintage flower sequins and wrapped wire add more color and a springtime touch. More wrapped wire makes the blades of grass. Beautiful deep blue sequins with yellow beads line the rim of the egg’s window. A gold jewelry cap and matching embroidery floss was added so the egg can be hung as well as displayed.
The egg measures 2 1/4" tall by 1 3/4" wide (5.7 cm x 4.5 cm). The egg opening measures 1 1/2" tall by 1 1/2" wide (3.8 cm x 3.8 cm).
Easter diorama eggs are a unique & fun holiday decoration. Of course, they look adorable arranged in Easter baskets! They also look sweet & festive hanging from pussy willow branches (I’m sure other branches would work fine!).
Or – you can make “magic” with them like my Grandparents did with me when I was a little girl. Every year the weekend before Easter, my Grandfather was given the arduous task of going into back yard to cut some forsythia branches. (Now you must understand…quite a show was put on for this little 4-8 year old!). Grandma would inspect each one carefully & give it a diagonal snip at the end. After they were all “prepared” she & I carefully arranged them in a vase of warm water. Then, according to her, they needed to rest a while. After dinner out would come all the “magic” (diorama) eggs the Easter Bunny had brought for my uncle and mother (of course, I found out later that these were the ones she & my mother had made) and we would carefully hang them from the bare forsythia branches. We placed some Easter grass around the base of the vase and added some more of the eggs & lots of Easter candles in the center of the dining room table. I’d then leave and come back Easter weekend. And sure enough, by Easter morning – the magic diorama eggs had worked and were dangling in a mass of bright yellow forsythia blossoms. I still remember the magic I felt through the entire experience, we did it with my children and I cannot wait to carry on the tradition with my grandchildren.
Diorama eggs make the perfect decoration to hang on a tree, vase full of greenery or urn full of ornamental branches. They also look beautiful on a mantel or tablescape nestled amongst other holiday treasures. Diorama eggs are a unique gift especially for the person who has everything…they also make a wonderful hostess or teacher gift.
Thanks for visiting!! Have a glorious day!
