What's more fun than dressing up small chicks in fancy hats and scarves and imagining them sailing in eggshell sailboats past an old castle? Nothing! And that's just what the Victorian's did in their holiday postcards!
I just love the imagery and decided to create a series of large decorative tiles in their honour. Based on an Easter greeting postcard from around 1910, I carved the image in wax and cast a plaster mould. After extruding a slab of porcelain clay, I pressed the mould into it and cut and sponged the edges. After firing the tile I glazed it in a glossy transparent turquoise green crackle and fired it a second time. This tile measures approximately 5 1/8" tall X 6 7/8" wide.
Use this wonderful tile to add an accent to your kitchen backsplash, fireplace facade, bath, or hang it on the wall to create a focal point to any room.
