Fear not, dear quilt lovers ... I'm not cutting into grandma's precious quilts to make these gift tags. (I could never!) I found a few worn and tattered vintage quilts at a garage sale and was able to salvage some pieces around the edges to make special cards and tags. Manila tags are tea-dyed first for an aged look, quilt scraps are zig-zag stitched to them, and a variety of ribbon and rick-rack ties are attached. Just write your gift message in the stitched rectangle in the back.

A unique assortment of 8 pretty tags are packaged in a cello bag and tied up with twine. And attention vendors and boutiques, these tags also make unique, shabby chic price tags and hang tags.

While salvaged quilt sections have been gently laundered, some "rust" specks and slight stains remain because of the sheer age of the quilts. But that adds character!

My love for vintage linens makes me recognize that these worn out quilts had long lives, providing warmth, comfort and memories ... and I like to think that by rescuing them and making gift tags and cards, I'm honoring the quilter by giving their beautiful but tattered handiwork a new life.
