Shown here is a gift made for B'nai Sholom synagogue in Huntington, WV. The papercut design shows the temple itself, surrounded by Huntington and WV animals (cardinals, squirrel, ducks, possum) and plants (sugar maple, rhododendron, sassafras), and edged at the bottom by the Ohio River and, in the far distance, the bridge crossing from Huntington to Ohio.
The quote below in Hebrew says, "The spirit of man is the lamp of God" (Proverbs 20:27). Above and to the right, streaming from the synagogue, is Psalm 98, verses 4 and 8: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth! make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. ... Let the rivers clap their hands, and let the mountains rejoice together!" (This present was done in honor of a chorus connected with the temple.) In each of the corners, a letter of the word "mizrah" is expanded--becoming an acronym for "From this direction comes the Spirit of Life," mtzed zeh ruah hayyim.
Papercut measures 17"x22", and is shipped flat. The papercut is attached to the gouache board background with acid-free framers tape (extra included). Custom matting extra: convo me.
