You know, we can thank Madonna for changing the way we wear lingerie. During the punk new wave era in the early to mid 1980's woman suddenly wore bustiers and lace slips as outerwear and it was not considered tacky to show some lace under a suit coat. Madonnas famous "Like a Virgin" comes to mind with this gorgeous vintage Merry Widow Corset.
This Merry Widow Corset style Bustier is made by Goddess and has a full lace front, power-net back, under-wire strapless bra cups with a light but firm fiber fill liner, and detachable adjustable metal garters with plastic tabs. The back hooks with two rows of a whopping 15 hooks and eyes and the bodice has four lengths of flexible boning. There is a darling ruffle of lace decorating the hem. This Merry Widow is union made in the USA and the ILGWU tag dates it prior to 1974. Fabric content is 100% nylon and elastic nylon spandex.
The condition is excellent with just the faintest ivory color to the power-net. The rest of the garment is bright white. I imagine this was probably a bridal item and worn once then kept in a drawer. I have hand washed and line dried as I do all my vintage lingerie, so you can be confident to wear upon arrival or give as a gift.
Measurements of garment laid flat, unstretched and comfortably stretched:
Marked a 36 B.
Under bust circumference - 28 to 34 inches (71.12 - 86.36 cm)
Waist - 30 to 34 inches (76.20 - 86.36 cm)
Center bust between cups to hem excluding lace ruffle - 14 inches (35.56 cm)
Hip measured at bottom of corset which should hit at high hip as it scoops up at the sides - 35 - 38 inches (88.90 - 96.52 cm)
Lace ruffle trim 2.5 inches (6.35 cm)
