The intricate pattern on this dish was hand carved via the ancient process known as sgraffito. Where a top layer of color is scratched through to reveal the white clay underneath. The term comes from the Italian word sgraffire meaning (literally) "to scratch". It can be a time consuming process but it yields beautiful and striking results.
Each tray is approxiately 10 1/4" long and 6 1/4" wide.
