This historical swimsuit was found at the estate of a long time Santa Fe resident and artist who shopped in New York and loved fashion. It's also in amazing condition, with good elastic and is very clean. The fabric looks like a cotton/wool blend with stretch, and the colors are vivid stripes of maroon, aqua, green, pink, and black on white. The top is ruched halter that ties at the back and back of the neck, with gathers at the center bust. The bottoms are panty style, completely ruched with elastic thread, that cover the belly button. They have a ties string around the waist, and a set of straps the side seams to cinch them up to be more revealing? Elsa Schiaparelli always had to be a bit different! Label reads "Schiaparelli designed Catalina". There is a size label that says "Large".
The two piece bikini was introduced by Louis Reard in 1946. I found a picture of an identical red swimsuit on the Wisconsin Historical Society page, under Curator's Favorites. It was worn by a Wisconsin resident in 1947.
Excellent condition! No holes, no snags, no panty stains, no smells. Elastic is like new! Cleaning is always recommended for vintage items before wearing.
Please check the measurements against something that fits you well! Flat measurements: Bust up to 38"; waist up to 26"; hips up to 36".
I do consider offers!
