Rice Straw art has been in existence for thousands of years but is in danger of being extinct. The history of straw art goes way back in time when people didn’t know how to make various colors, paint or dyes. The artists at that time used the natural colors of the rice straw (dried leaves of the rice plant) to create images. They used different shades of the rice straw (Dark, light, brown, yellow, white etc) to create color for their art works.
This unique art originated in the southern tip of India called Kerala thousands of years ago and passed on from generation to generation and less than hundred artists practices this beautiful art at this time.
