This doll is one of my favourites and has modeled for my tutorials!
Masami is a "maiko" or apprentice geisha. She is practicing her dance moves while dreaming of becoming a full-fledged geisha just like her big sister.
Standing only about 7cm tall, Masami is meticulously dressed in a colourful kimono with long, elaborate sleeves and sash. Her elaborate hairstyle is also another important feature of a maiko. She has beautiful floral ornaments in her hair and holds a paper fan in her right hand. Masami comes attached on a 9x9 cm square base. A removable 7.5 cm clear casing protects her from dust. This piece is named (in Kanji and Romaji), dated and signed by myself at the bottom.
The doll's outfit is made of traditional Japanese paper called washi chiyogami. This is an art piece for collection or display purposes, not a toy. It is not suitable for young children. Keep away from sunlight and moisture.
I will be listing more washi ningyo so stay tuned if you wish to start a collection ^^
