I love combining fabrics in interesting ways, so when I found a great gingham printed SPANDEX I knew it would be a challenge worth tackling. Susie, of www.stylebubble.typepad.com (the lovely lady in the photo) only confirmed my suspicions of the amazingness of this fabric when I mentioned finding it to her and she demanded to know more immediately! I decided to surprise Susie with this new design using the lauded fabric as the centerpiece.
The contrast of the traditional gingham pattern with futuristic spandex made me decide to use it on a fitted, panelled dress idea I'd been rolling around in my mind for awhile. I decided to mix it with a mini floral mesh, another fabric that's full of contrasts. The solid black panels are a double faced jersey with a tiny subtle quilted diamond pattern. Very comfy & soft yet with a bit of solidity to it, a nice stabilizing contrast to the silky spandex. The mesh floral is applied over this solid black at the waist and hips. A chunky metal teeth zipper at the bust and black elastic binding at the armhole cutouts and cuffs finish it off.
