Now you can have your very own custom Chicago Manual of Style Book Purse, as seen in the New York Times blog Paper Cuts! I have several copies of the 13th edition on hand, and more copies of the 14th winging their way to me. Custom orders will take 3 or more weeks, depending on which edition you select and how long my waiting list is.

The 13th edition's cover is embossed with a lower case alphabet, still in the same dark orange. The title is in gold on the spine. You can choose your favorite fabric, for either edition, the choices are the same. Please list a second choice, in case I run out of your first. I am now out of the original William Morris fabric, but I love all the other choices. Your button will be a surprise, but I promise it will be great. Everything else is the same, the original listing is below.

This Book Purse is made from the 14th edition of "The Chicago Manual of Style." While textbooks have always been among my favorite books to transform into purses, I get a particular kick out of this one, from the double entendre of "style." Not just for grammar, now it's fashion!

The cover is a deep orange, almost red, with the title printed in large gold letters. The title is again repeated on the spine, along with the stamp for the 14th edition. For the lining fabric, I chose an orange red and gold William Morris pattern on 100% quilting cotton.

The handles are made with black wooden beads on a gold metal frame, and the purse closes with a gold metal button and grosgrain ribbon loop. When not in use, the handles may be folded inside the purse and you can store it on a bookcase just like a real book. The Book Purses look wonderful stashed among your favorite tomes, and as you collect them, you can have an entire shelf full of purses! You can even store valuables inside them on your shelf, to keep them hidden.

There is a narrow pocket inside perfect for a slim phone or wallet, and the spine is reinforced for durability. While the purses are not fragile, and are certainly more durable than the original books they are made from, care should be taken with them. If you treat your Book Purse like you would treat a treasured old book, you will be able to enjoy it for years and years to come.

The dimensions are approximately 9 1/4" long, 2 1/2" wide, 6" tall, and the handles are 6" wide by 4" tall. The longer the book, the wider the purse, so this one is a nice size for carrying your necessities on a special night out.

This would be a great purse for any writer, blogger, journalist, grammar nerd, or fashionista with a taste for orange.
