I've designed this series to have the appeal of tattered and treasured photograph pages from a 1920s album.
This most fashionable beauty is framed on a vintage cabinet card and mounted on an old book cover.
Layers of sepia tone on tone hand-dyed french lace and frayed fabric, silk ribbons and birds nest paper come together to create a fanciful timeworn look. Subtle shades of burgundy peek out in the handsewn details, including mother of pearl buttons, silk ribbons and velvet bits along with tulle and book cover fragments.
I've mounted "Sun Maiden" on a rusty brass remnant from a clock movement entangled with earthy silk yarn. Below, lies a ribbon style embellishment created from lace, organza fabric and ribbon and secured with a vintage pin. A cluster of fabric and thread ravels garnish the top edge of the collage.
This piece measures 10" x 6" and has a wire attached to the back for hanging.
