'I cannot understand why you should wish to leave this beautiful country and go back to the dry, grey place you call Kansas.'
'That is because you have no brains,' answered the girl.'No matter how dreary and grey our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home.'
~ L. Frank Baum.

This collection was based on the beloved classic "The Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum. I have dreamed of creating this set since I first started making my Bea's Wees over a year ago and it was so much fun to watch them come to life.

The little characters are part of my Bea's Wees collection of polymer clay collectibles. Each piece was hand-sculpted, painted, aged, and sealed twice with non-toxic sealer. They range in size from about 1 1/2" to 2 1/4". They were created with great care and were made to be enjoyed for years and years to come.

ABOUT THE CHARACTERS:
Dorothy is dressed in her gingham dress. Her hair is in rope braids that are tied with red silk ribbon.

Toto is quite small. He has a little red collar and sits in a handmade basket that I created from jute, wood, and wire.

The Scarecrow is dressed in the usual scarecrow attire, patch and all.

The Tin Woodman shines in his tin outfit. He was painted in metallic paint and then aged to give just the right amount of rustiness. He wears his heart proudly for all the world to see.

The Cowardly Lion was so much fun to sculpt! I really enjoyed creating the fringed look of his mane and tail from clay.

Glinda was based on the good witch, humbleBea style. I have always envisioned her to look like my gnome princess, and that she does. I gave her white streamers because, according to the author, only good witches wear white.

The Wicked Witch is dressed in charcoal from head to foot. I added glitter to her hat to give her a touch of glam.

The home of Oz is GREEN... no green spectacles required! The house was created from a papier mache box and features my signature felt roof. The text on the house is from a vintage copy of the story. The sign on the front door reads:
Home of Oz,
the Great
and Terrible!
The handmade window box has five red poppies that I created from polymer clay, sequins, and star pins. The back of the house fittingly reads 'The End'. The doors and windows are edged with metallic green paint and the entire home was sealed with non-toxic sealer. The house is about 8 inches tall by 5 inches wide.

I do not plan to create another set based on this story for quite some time, making this set a truly unique collectble.
