The hummingbird’s back and upper wings are constructed with dark green iridized glass. Light green glass forms the wing and tail feathers. It is ruby-throated and white-chested with a black bill.
The hummingbird feeds from flowers in shades of red and orange. Dark green stems and lighter green leaves complete the flowers. The background is a light blue seedy glass which means air bubbles are entrapped in the glass, giving it texture.
It measures 9 ¼” in diameter.
The glass in this piece was carefully cut, wrapped in copper foil and soldered. It is framed with zinc came. A length of jack chain is attached in the back for hanging. Links can be removed to adjust the height.
The sun shining through the glass or lack of sun will give the colors various appearances. Also, please be aware that colors may look slightly different on your computer monitor than in person.
