I like to call this style of faux taxidermy DecouDermy (A mix of Decoupage and Taxidermy!)
My love for Natural History, animals, and antique nature illustrations drove me to make this faux taxidermy head mount as well as start my Decoudermy etsty store.
The piece is a combination off all those things. The form is modeled after a Red Fox. The "Skin" of the head is made using a gel medium transfer process. The eyes are glass and the teeth acrylic. In the neck of the creature there is a cut out that goes all the way through the head. In that cut out I have constructed with hand cut paper cutouts the Metamorphous of a moth. To complement the cutouts, which are from old antique nature illustrations, I have dressed the scene with dried mosses and found twigs. The head is mounted on a pine would panel upholstered with foam and covered with black and white damask pattered cotton fabric. The finishing touches were the antiqued brass rivets and decretive trim to make the head really pop as well as some hand painting to bring out the eyes and mouth!
Includes hanging hardware on the back for simple and immediate hanging.
