My grandmother was in the Workers of Mary when I was a child. Part of their work was serving up delicious pancakes at the yearly Mother-Daughter Breakfast, a wonderful morning of being doted on and fed by dozens of grandmas. But another part of their work was making rosaries and scapulars. My grandmother was the craftiest person I've ever known, and that extended to every part of her life.

I looked up the 'rules' for making scapulars, and all I could nail down was that they had to be brown and they had to be wool. And as I just so happened to have a beautiful piece of hand-dyed chocolate brown wool, I imagine it was Providence.

These scapulars have been made with the aforementioned beautiful hand-dyed chocolate brown 100% pure wool felt, which has been pinked into a circle. On each side is an image taken from a vintage French prayer card. The two wool discs are connected by a length of gold satin ribbon.

As I was taught it by the nuns in elementary school, if you die while you are wearing a scapular, you get to go straight into heaven. That seems like a wonderful loophole. However, at the moment these are purely decorative items, but are perfectly suitable to have blessed by a priest if you would like. Or if you don't want it blessed you can just keep it as a pretty thing, maybe hang it off of your dressing table mirror or something.

A scapular would make a nice gift for a First Holy Communion or Confirmation. I will provide a little decorative envelope for it as well. There are five of them, please let me know which you would prefer, or else I can choose for you.
