it opens and closes with a little latch type closer, and hangs from an 18" fancy gold plated chain. dangling above is the most glimmery, sparkling swarovski crystal gem i could find, with a somewhat hexagonal shape that reflects light and gives this necklace an overall almost magical shimmer. matching gold lobster clasp-- sturdy and well made :)
