I learned how to make these mitts years ago from a grouchy old lady named Frances. She showed me how to crochet so as to have a double thickness that protects your hands from the heat of the skillet handle.
They can be left on the handle during use and because they are 100% cotton, they may get warm but will withstand the heat (use care near open flame).
This package contains one standard sized mitt, which measures about 4 1/2 inches in length but will stretch/scrunch to fit a variety of handle sizes. Plus one stubby which is designed for smaller sized skillets with a shorter handle, it measures about 3 3/4 inches. The mitts conform to the skillet handle and have a nubby texture which gives a non-slip surface that won't roll around.
This listing is for a natural/off white set, but can be made in other colors; so ask about special orders.
