Get out your big needles and keep it simple! This is all about having fun with mindless knitting and succumbing to the sheer pleasure of color and texture. And yes -- you can drink while knitting with yarns like these.
I'm a texture freak, and my knitting & weaving nearly always involves blending various yarn weights and textures, handpainted in small batches in my studio. The thematic color throughout the finished piece is what ties all the textures together in your creation, be it a shawl, shrug, cardigan, throw, etc. You can add in your own touches for even more color and texture, but these base yarns will keep the entire piece cohesive.
The philosopy of mixing yarns is "rules are made to be broken" -- you'll be working some yarns in gauge and others out of gauge, and that is the organic beauty of the handmade aesthetic.
