Ball began making these Ideal jars in 1915 for home canning. They claimed they were "doubly secure because they sealed with vacuum and lever pressure." Along the bottom it says, "PAT'D JULY 14, 1908." That refers to the date of the patent for the jar, not the date of manufacture. The logo script tells us this particular jar was produced from 1923-1933. Production of Ideal jars ended in 1962.
The "Ball blue" of these jars came from minerals in the Lake Michigan sand and from the amount of oxygen added to the furnaces in the production phase. Ball stopped making blue jars in 1937.
