5 and 3/4 inches high, 6 and 1/4 inches wide
Cover:
This book is covered with green Iris book cloth. It features a strip of Arches paper, which has been hand painted, on the outside cover as well as the inside covers. A vintage button has been sewn on to the front of the book and a braid of linen thread is sewn to the back; in this way, the book can be securely closed.
Coptic Binding:
This book is sewn with waxed olive and black linen thread using a multiple needle Coptic stitch. A special sewn headband adorns the top and bottom of this book - orange thread was used. In addition to being decorative, this also adds strength and support for the book.
Book Block:
Many of the pages are hand sewn using unlined white Arches paper, which is acid free. Before sewing, each page was hand painted (by yours truly) using a wet paper process involving ink and acrylic paint; each page is one of a kind. This results in a very organic looking design, which is very interesting and unique! Blank Mohawk Superfine paper was used for the rest of the pages. It makes for smooth writing with a variety of pencils and pens. Because of this binding, the book lies flat when opened.
Pages:
Painted Paper - 30 single sheets, 60 when taking both sides into account
Blank Paper - 50 single sheets, 100 when taking both sides into account
Using the Painted Pages:
This book is meant to be used. A writer could work around the painted areas, writing only in the white space. Although, using something such as an Ultra Fine Tip Sharpie, it is possible to write over top of most of the ink and paint as well. I know someone who used a journal like this one to record dreams. The possibilities are endless!
