I am not sure at all if countries other than the UK have allotments? Little scraps of land that are rented out cheaply to people who don't have a garden of their own. Come the summer they are a bright patchwork of flowers and vegetables and are glorious to behold.
So this is my representation of a patch of British allotments as seen from a hot air balloon on a sunny, summer's day.
This piece is 16" x 20" approximately and is made from fabric and fibres, collaged together, sewn onto black cotton canvas and stretched over a wooden frame.
Quick update. This piece won the Member's Choice category in the EBSQ One Word Concept 'Green' competition in May 2010. You can see the entries at www.ebsqart.com and click on the shows tab.
Thanks very much for looking. Stop by again soon, always new things to see.
