The feathers are crest or head feathers and curve backwards as they hang.
All other feathers of the Galah are grey or pink but the head feathers have got the white edge you will find on this beautiful pair of Earrings.
We found the feathers are on our outback winter travels. Thank you little friend!
The timber is Eucalyptus root from Western Australia, Pilbara.
Cut, sanded smooth and oiled by me.
Earring length: 75mm (3”) including sterling silver ear hook.
Galah or Rose-breasted Cockatoo is one of the most common and widespread cockatoos in Austalia. It has a pale grey to mid-grey back, a pale grey rump, a pink face and chest, and a light pink mobile crest. Its behaviour is bold and loud, you see it usually in a big flock.
I was thinking of doing Galah Earrings for a while - today was the day to go through all my feathers and I was able to “bundle” 4 pairs. With “bundle” I mean - finding the matching feathers and hand stitch them together with cotton, getting them ready for fitting it into the timber – drill the right size hole and clue the feathers in.
All four pairs are different – you will see in time.
This one is the second pair to fly.
